Jordan Brand Signs LaMarr Woodley of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Looking to beef up their football roster, the Jordan Brand has inked Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley to an exclusive endorsement deal. The hard hitter has helped the Steelers defense stay near the top of the league as usual, having made 44 tackles, 8.5 sacks and a career high 3 forced fumbles. In addition, Woodley has picked off two passes, including one this past weekend off Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer for a touchdown.

If you've been watching closely, you may have noticed Woodley wearing a mysterious Steelers-themed cleat to do his dirty work. That cleat is indeed an exclusive that the Jordan Brand custom made for him. Reminiscent of the Jordan Jaq'd cleat, LaMarr's custom features a white and gold upper with perforated geometric cut-outs on the side panel and forefoot. Black is seen on the inner liner and cleated outsole, as well as a contrast stitch throughout. Take a look at the Woodley cleat below, including shots of him wearing them in-game.

Air Jordan XIII (13) "Altitudes"

The Air Jordan 13 is back in a big way. 2010 will give us three retro releases, and more are expected for 2011. The “Flint”, White/Red and “Altitudes” pairs are in a heated race for “Most Anticipated Colorway.” Will these new detailed photos give this shoe a leg up? As we know, the 2010 retro version features a different material make-up than the 2005s, including the new mesh-like quarter panel. Textured leather wraps around the heel and mudguard, while tumbled leather fills out the toe box. The namesake Altitude Green is the choice hue for the tongue Jumpman logo and outsole. Of course, the heel boasts the famed hologram.

NBA Bans Spring-Loaded Sneakers for Giving Unfair Ups

It's the best tagline a gimmicky jump-assisting shoe could want: "Banned by the NBA." And now it's true

Concept 1 Sneaker Athletic Propulsion Labs
After a few weeks of testing, the NBA has officially banned Athletic Propulsion Labs's Concept 1 sneaker. The Concept 1 uses a spring-loaded system to allegedly improve a player's vertical leap by a few (but significant) inches--a benefit that, true or not, just doesn't fly with the NBA.

Athletic Propulsion Labs was founded by two 23-year-old twins, Ryan and Adam Goldston, which is only surprising until you learn that the Goldston twins are the sons of Mark Goldston. Mark is the creator of all manner of sneaker gimmickry, including the lights in L.A. Gear footwear, Hexalite, and most famously, the Reebok Pump. So this kind of podiatric silliness is in Athletic Propulsion Labs's blood.

The sneakers in question, the Concept 1, has a sort of hard elastic rubber bit that runs from the heel to the forefoot, connecting with the "Load 'N Launch" device at the forefoot. The "Load 'N Launch" is basically a spring in between two pieces of plastic which theoretically uses the energy transferred from the heel to increase one's vertical leap.

Sports Illustrated tested the Concept 1 back in September, and found that they do actually work--at least, they sort of work, sometimes. A two-footed leap seems to be the only way to feel any difference, and even then, only some testers noticed an improvement. But it did, when used in a specific way, by a specific player, sometimes result in an extra inch or three of air. Whether that's worth the $300 asking price (or the apparent moderate discomfort some testers noticed) is kind of arguable, but hey, at least they're not total snake oil.

That the shoes work even a little bit is enough to get the NBA to ban them. The NBA said in a statement that "Under league rules, players may not wear any shoe during a game that creates an undue competitive advantage." But Athletic Propulsion Labs couldn't be more thrilled: They've plastered "Banned by the NBA" over their entire website, making it their rallying cry. That's bound to be a disappointment to the 30% of the NBA's freshman class that APL claims ordered the shoes, but don't be surprised to see them popping up in pickup games across the country instead

Air Jordan VII (7) Premio – Bin 23 Collection | Sample

Remember that Sneaker News Exclusive Air Jordan VII that featured no branding whatsoever? It resurfaces once more, but with a few changes. Here’s a first look at the Air Jordan VII Premio of the Jordan Brand Bin 23 Collection. Mos Def signs with Kanye West’s GOOD Music

Kanye West’s creative output already exceeds all other non-convicted rappers, so it begs the question: When does the Chicago MC find time to do anything else? Like, for example, his label GOOD Music, which is flourishing almost as impressively as his career’s resurgence. Already the roster includes the likes of Common, John Legend, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Consequence, GLC, Mr Hudson, and CyHi Da Prynce, and recently Pusha T of Clipse was also added to the fold. But West isn’t stopping there, as the hip hop mogul has now convinced the equally acclaimed Mos Def to join GOOD Music.

The revelation comes from this month’s issue of XXL, which is dedicated entirely to West and his label. In the article “Monster INC.”, paragraphs are offered on each of the label’s acts. Mos Def’s reads as the following:

“Just as Kanye returned to his roots to scoop up Common, he recently recruited his buddy Brooklyn rapper/singer/actor Mos Def into the GOOD Music fold. Long regarded as a formidable talent by underground devotees and mainstream fans alike, Mos appeared on “Two Words” (from Kanye’s 2005 The College Dropout) and “Drunk and Hot Girls” (from KW’s 2007 Graduation). Since his 1999 solo debut, Black on Both Sides, Mos has increasingly been pushed — whether by generational choices or self-exile — to the fringes of indie, alternative hip hop. Maybe it will take Kanye to reign him in.”

Details stop there, so we don’t yet know what West has planned for Mos Def. However, he has already used the MC’s talents for his recently released G.O.O.D. Friday selection “Lord Lord Lord”....

Lyfe Jennings Sentenced to 3.5 years

The internet is abuzz this evening with word that Lyfe Jennings has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for an offense he committed in Smyrna, Georgia.

While this hasn?t been confirmed by either camps, Lyfe Jennings tweeted this earlier this afternoon:

This will be my last post. To everyone who gave me a chance I am forever in your debt. I have had a fabulous career because of you. All I can say in parting is that I have been honest with yaw. I didn?t sugarcoat a word didn?t hold back a single sylible of my life from yaw. I?ve lived a hundred lives in these 6 yrs so I not only won?t, i don?t have the right to complain. I would like to think that I?ve changed lives by changing my own, tho I can?t be sure. But one thing I am sure of is God gives and takes away in measure. He is fair, just and forever. Amen from aman? Smile, its contageous:)

Jennings, 35, (born Chester Jennings) was attempting to locate the mother of his children, Joy Pound, when he allegedly kicked in the door of a house in Smyrna and later fired a gun in the street. Corporal Milton Lane of the Smyrna Police Department told MTV News that when police arrived on the scene to respond to the shots fired in what they believed was a domestic dispute, they witnessed a red 2005 Corvette leaving the address.

A high-speed pursuit ensued, and Jennings was apprehended after he crashed the car. Once he was stopped, the warrant in the case said he refused a field sobriety test and police smelled ?a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage? coming from his mouth.

Kid Cudi Vs. Wale: More Rap "Beef"

Kid Cudi is taking shots at his old accomplice Wale.

The two rappers who were once thought to be good friends are apparently at a war of words with Cudi lashing out at Wale for being “wack” and insisting that he and Kanye are not fans of his music.

In an interview with Complex, Cudi states that's he's “incomparable” to any other rapper and he didn't take too kindly to a post the D.C. rapper penned comparing himself and his peers to different genres of sports.

“Did you see that Wale interview that he just did, comparing us to sports? Let me clear this up: I'm incomparable to anybody. I don't care how people take that. No one can compete with me. I'm unf*ckwittable; no one can knock me off my sh*t. I'm an unstoppable force, I'm a bullet. My trajectory is to the sky. N*ggas got to do something really spectacular to f*ck with me and my realm, and n*ggas be so bitter that you hear it in their voice.”

When Complex asks Cudi his thoughts on a line Wale dropped in a freestyle referencing to that infamous incident where Cudi punched a fan on stage, a noticeably agitated Cudi calls Wale “wack” saying,

“It wasn't a shot, it's just a simple-a** rhyme by a simple-a** rapper. You can't let that **** faze you. That's one of those raps that just shows the world that you wack. Why would you even use that as a metaphor? Everybody think they Hov. N*ggas ain't got the magic like they think they do; there's only a couple of wizards in this game. I'm a wizard and I know it.”

Cudi also made sure to add in one more jab at the D.C. rapper, this time about his references to Kanye West on tracks. According to Cudi, he and his G.O.O.D. music head don't “f*ck with him musically” and Wale should be less thirsty.

Ouch!

“The last album, I let people dis me, throw out those jabs in their verses and have their little slick remarks. This time around, I'm not f*cking around. I have no time to think about other n*ggas. These other mother*ckers like feeding off another n*gga's energy, so they mention their name. You hear me talk about n*ggas? I don't even talk about Kanye, and that's my homeboy! They talk about Kanye like they're bosom buddies with this n*gga. Talking about "I be in Hawaii"—man, shut the **** up, why you got to tell everybody everything? Then people like Wale get mad that 'Ye ain't give him no beats—'Ye ain't give you no beats because we ain't f*cking with your raps. It's not a conspiracy theory. We don't f*ck with you musically, so we're not going to provide music for you. The sh*t is a service, it's a quality of a certain standard. N*ggas are just so thirsty it's ridiculous. I've been eating humble pie forever, and people still call me an a**hole. These people don't know my f*cking life—now I'm going to give them something to talk about."

Wale subliminally addressed his issues with Cudi on his track “Numbers One” from his More About Nothing mixtape saying,

“Maybe it's on me or brother it's on you/ Or maybe it's they fault that we ain't holla since June/F*ck it we on the move/None of us tryna lose/I am outta this world and you are a ‘Man on The Moon'.”

Air Jordan XIII (13) Retro – Holiday 2010 Collection

The year was 1997 and Michael Jordan was entering his final year with the Chicago Bulls; it was a bittersweet season for Bulls fans and the NBA – sad for the fact that the greatest ever would no longer be in a Bulls uni and happy for the fact that a team outside of Chicago had a chance at winning a ‘chip. During that wondrous season in which Jordan averaged nearly 29 points a game and led the Bulls to a 62-win season, Michael wore the Air Jordan XIII in a number of colorways – almost too many to count. Finally releasing after thirteen years of quietude are two original colorways of the AJ13 as well as a re-release of the Flints, all headed for a monstrous Holiday 2010 season.

The White/Red pair was Jordan’s favorite for Home games during the ‘97-’98 regular season and we were lucky to get a low-top version in 2005, so the mid-top will be a huge hit once it releases. The Black/White pair was seen on MJ’s feet during the All-Star Game of that season as well as during Home Playoff Games. However the Retro releases looks to features a 3M-reflective mesh-like shroud (as seen on other AJ13 releases) rather than the original leather. And finally, the Flint XIII will makes its third encore presentation as well. With three big Air Jordan XIII releases headed our way, making a concrete decision on just one pair is getting increasingly tough as the Holiday 2010 season nears. Which pair do you have your eye on? Let us know and check out the extra images after the jump.

Nike Air Force One Foamposite - DOPE!!!!

This Fall, Nike resurrects the out-of-this-world technology of 1997’s Foamposite matching up with a true footwear icon. Originally found on the feet of NBA superstars as well as forward-thinking East Coast urbanites, Foamposite utilized a then groundbreaking two-mold process, delivering an unprecedented upper shape, color and feel giving the shoe a truly futuristic look. It delivered on a new level of performance durability, support and protection. To satisfy the craving that’s persisted since the end of the twentieth century, Nike brings back Foamposite, combining it with the Air Force 1, for an absolutely seamless new slice of basketball footwear.

The legendary AF1, born in 1982 when Bruce Kilgore introduced Nike Air to the game of basketball, is a classic hoop shoe, adopted for the streets and for its style. It’s the sneakerhead’s sneaker, and has been evolving ever since. This evolution sees Nike bring together the best of both worlds. Significant creative thinking and new engineering to create a three-mold process that eliminates the seams on the upper. The shoe also draws on the original Foamposite design, utilizing a midsole that allows consumers a window into the soul of the shoe. Seamless Foamposite, in an Air Force 1.
